27.08.2019 Tips for Your Home by Mary Maidiotis Spring Cleaning Guide: Part 3 Part Three: The Kitchen Spring is in the air! The birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming, the sunshine is beaming into your home. Open the windows and breathe new air into your home with a good spring clean. To motivate you to get started, we've created a four-part series to help you break down the process room-by-room. The Kitchen The heart of our home deserves some TLC this spring. Often the busiest room in the house, the kitchen can quickly gather dirt and mess. With so many appliances, cupboards and little nooks, it can seem daunting to clean this space. Never fear, we've broken it down for you so your kitchen will be spotless in no time. Declutter It's hard to refresh your kitchen without clearing it out first! Beware Expiry Dates Working one at a time, sort through your pantry and fridge, throwing away any expired or stale food. Similarly, if there are empty sauce bottles it's time to throw them away. For any unwanted or unopened foods, donate them to your local food bank. This is also a good time to transfer any open items such as rice and flour to airtight containers. Clear Cupboards Using the same method as above, sort through your cupboards, throwing away any unused or broken, pots, pans and appliances. Clean Our food comes into contact with these surfaces so it's important to clean everything from the inside out! Wipe Winter Away Wipe down and disinfect all surfaces in this room - the fridge, pantry, cupboards, shelving, walls and bins. Let no surface escape you! A Good Scrub After throwing away any broken and potentially hazardous appliances, it's time to give them all a good scrub. Cleaning inside and outside your microwave, your kettle and toaster is a good start. Next, roll up your sleeves and thoroughly clean your oven, range hood and stovetop. It's important not to forget to clean your dishwasher too, in order for it to continue to perform its duty. Freshen Up Just like you did in the bathroom, the drain in your sink needs a good clean to avoid clogging. Use a homemade remedy of baking soda, vinegar and hot water to clean it out and leave it smelling fresh! Rejuvenate After the cleaning is done, give your space new life with some much-needed updates and additions. Out with the Old If you had to throw away any old or broken appliances, replace them with some shiny new ones. There are multiple colour options available for a different look in the kitchen. A Breath of Fresh Air Ask Alexa to open your blinds or curtains, and let the glorious spring sunshine enter your kitchen. Throw open your windows and feel that crisp breeze fill your home. Add some fresh scents to your kitchen with floral candles or opt for the real thing with some in-season flowers like peonies. There is no better time to update your window coverings than spring. Contact Somfy to obtain a quote for motorised window coverings in your kitchen, or even prep your outdoor area for the warmer weather.
